Limbo is an artist-led organisation based in Margate, Kent. Their home, Substation Project Space, is a disused electricity substation building, which is just off the High Street behind KFC and Burtons and next to Crate Project Space and Studios. Limbo was an initiative of two artists with a passion for the area and the arts. Their vision, part of a wider initiative to regenerate the area through the arts, was to create a resource in Margate complimentary to other locally based arts organisations, providing affordable artist studios, a gallery/project space and a programme of exhibitions, artist residencies, events and off-site projects.
Limbo and its dedicated curatorial team, aim to present a discerning programme of contemporary art. It wants to create, through its projects, new points of reference, or points of entry, through which the audience can approach otherwise difficult, or unfamiliar, concepts. Limbo is essentially a sub-cultural entity that aims to resist or turn the norm on its head in order to embrace the experimental and new.
