Potential Feelgood Story of the year ends in disaster when cat attempts to rescue owner
A cat shocks firemen after attempting to put out a household fire and drag her owner to safety.
When weelchair bound Roy Steadly was injured after an overheated chip pan burst into flames, he was stunned when his cat Millie came to his aid.
With burns to the hands, Roy of Hartsdown Road was left unable to deal with the fire or call for help. Clearly sensing his distress, feline-friend Millie rushed to his rescue. But, What could have been another heroic pet tale, ended up a catastrophe...
Sexy Fire Officer Stephen Bann
Fire Officer Stephen Bann explained: "Millie made the classic mistake of throwing a glass of cold water onto the fire..." "Had the creature placed a wet cloth over the pan as the fire brigade advise, that probably would have been the end of it."
The pan exploded, and soon the burning oil had set the whole kitchen ablaze. Although Roy had managed to evacuate the room, it wasnt long before the smoke and fumes had left him barely concious.
Determined not to give up, Millie began dragging Roy's body through the house, only to become disorientated and guide him straight into the basement.
Officer Bann went on: "It seems the animal sent Roy's frail body tumbling down the steps to the cellar, where he layed for four days while his house burned down around him." Luckily the fire remained above ground level, and by chance Roy was shielded from the extreme heat by a pile of stacked newspapers, which had fallen atop his crippled body in the tumble.
Assumed dead at first, Fire crews were astounded to find both Roy and Millie alive and relatively well, while clearing rubble several days later. They were even more amazed as Roy described to them his traumatic ordeal, and the actions of his bungling cat.
