Mobile Phone Masts

Mobile Phone company's sneaky new tactics for better network coverage

Phone mast attached to George Briars Home in Minnis Bay

When George Briars woke on Wednesday morning he was disgusted to find he had been the latest victim of O2's networking operation.
A 25 ft Mast had been erected on his roof by stealthy workmen in the night. George told us: "Its not just the mast itself, the cables run through the house, along the kitchen worksurface and out through the catflap."

Devious mast erection is taking place in a massive undertaking, as the competing networks battle it out to provide the best area coverage.
But, its not just homes that are being targetted, public areas such as libraries, shopping centres and swimming pools are also deemed suitable sites. Often the masts are disguised as lamp posts, trees or really really tall people. We've even found several cats forced to wear mini-masts in order to boost reception in areas otherwise unsuitable.

Community and environmental groups are pleading with local councils to put a stop to the illegal constructions. Activist Maggie Shaw Said: "Aside from the fact they are vandalising private and public property, we've still not had any conclusive results as to the safety of mobile phone masts. The mini-mast wearing cats we found were clearly deranged".
An O2 spokesperson said the company always consider environmental issues, and as such "only target cats which are already deranged".
